The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has scheduled two open houses to gather public input on transit-oriented development (TOD) plans near the Red Line.
The agency has proposed redeveloping properties along a stretch of track included in the first phase of the Red and Purple Modernization program.
When the modernization project was announced in 2014, the CTA committed to drafting a TOD plan with community input, agency officials said in a press release.
The first meeting takes place today; the other is scheduled for May 11. The events are the first of three rounds of public meetings on the TOD plan. Additional meetings will be announced in the coming months.
To help fund the plan, the CTA received a $1.25 million grant through the Federal Transit Administration's pilot program for TOD.
The initial phase of the modernization project calls for rebuilding the Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn and Bryn Mawr rail stations and more than a mile of adjacent tracks and track structure. The phase also includes the construction of a Red-Purple bypass where the Red, Brown and Purple lines intersect north of the Belmont Station.
The bypass would help improve reliability and increase capacity, CTA officials said.
