The Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad Co. (LS&M) is the latest train excursion company to announce the suspension of its 2020 season due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was made in the "best interest of safety for all passengers, crews and operations volunteers," railroad officials announced on LS&M's website.

During the rest of the year, crews will perform track improvements and engine updates, and renovate coaches and cars, they said.

Volunteers will focus on preparing the railroad for a safe 2021 season, LS&M officials added.

The original LS&M was the first railroad into Duluth, Minnesota, in the 1870s. The current rail excursion entity preserves 5.2 miles of the original railroad's right-of-way into Duluth.
