MBTA keeps infrastructure improvements on track

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is using its increase in capital spending on system-wide upgrades and repairs. Following a 40-percent increase from last year, MBTA says it's kicking its infrastructure improvements into high gear.

"We're fully committed to our goal of increased investments in our system's existing infrastructure by putting funds toward maintenance and repairs, resulting in better service for our customers," said interim MBTA General Manager Steve Poftak.

Caltrain approves $32.1 million contract award to Proven Management

Caltrain awarded a $32.1-million contract to Proven Management Inc. for the South San Francisco Station Improvement Project.

Caltrain's Board of Directors approved the contract at its August meeting. The project's construction is slated to begin in November and is expected to be completed by summer 2019.

TSB makes safety recommendations for improved track inspections following 2015 derailment in Ontario

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is recommending that Transport Canada (TC) incorporate predictive data on rail surface conditions to help better focus its targeted regulatory track inspections.

The recommendation was issued as a part of TSB's investigation into the March 2015 derailment and fire involving a Canadian National (CN) freight train near Gogama, Ontario.

Andrew Robbins will serve as the next executive director and chief executive officer of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART).

The board interviewed seven finalists after narrowing a global search of more than a hundred applicants to succeed HART's current Interim Executive Director and C.E.O. Krishniah Murthy. Murthy will remain with HART for a period to allow for Robbins' successful transition into his new role leading Honolulu's Rail Transit Project.
