Rail News: Federal Legislation & Regulation

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced last week a $2.75 million opportunity for nonprofit organizations interested in creating and leading research, demonstration, testing and evaluation projects of zero emission and related technology for public transportation.

The FTA's Zero Emission Research Opportunity (ZERO) supports the agency's green-technology programs by advancing non-polluting transit vehicles through team-led research and demonstration projects.

The program seeks up to three consortia to develop and manage project teams of public transit operators, industry vendors, suppliers and others that will focus on increasing efficiencies and capabilities while lowering costs for transit fleets, according to an FTA press release.

Eligibility for future ZERO funding opportunities for fiscal years 2017-2020 will be limited to the selected nonprofit consortia.

Applications for funding requests will be accepted through Feb. 21, 2017.
