Gov. Murphy orders NJ Transit riders to wear masks
New Jersey Gov. Phil MurphyPhoto – nj.govNew Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy last week signed an executive order to enforce New Jersey Transit social distancing policies to limit the spread of COVID-19. The order went into effect yesterday.
Under the order, NJ Transit rail riders are required to wear a mask and workers must wear gloves when in contact with riders.
If a rider refuses to wear a cloth face covering, then NJ Transit workers may decline entry to the individual, according to the executive order summary.
The order also requires the agency to limit passenger occupancy of light-rail vehicles by 50 percent, arrange contactless fare payment options, and sanitize high-touch areas.
In a press release, NJ Transit President and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Corbett said he is grateful to the governor for adding extra authority and enforcement to the agency's personal protective equipment policies.
