The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority last week began major construction on the 9.1-mile Foothill Gold light-rail line between Glendora and Pomona, California.
The project, expected to be completed in 2025, will add four stations to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s L Line in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona.
The project calls for Kiewit-Parsons joint venture (KPJV) crews to relocate more than 9 miles of track shared with BNSF Railway Co. in the corridor; install new light-rail tracks; build four light-rail stations; rebuild 21 grade crossings; build or renovate 19 bridges; relocate utilities; install communications systems; and install non traction power supply substations and an overhead catenary system.
KPJV crews began construction last week with the rebuilding of a crossing on Gladstone Street in San Dimas, construction authority officials said in a press release.
The light-rail line from Glendora to Pomona is being funded by Los Angeles County's voter-approved Measure M sales tax, and by residual funding from Measure R and California's greenhouse gas reduction funds.
