The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) earlier this week kicked off its "ArtBound" program, which is aimed at integrating art throughout its rail system.

To mark ArtBound's launch, the agency hosted a ceremony June 19 at the Five Points rail station, according to a MARTA press release.

In 2016, MARTA's board voted to invest in art at transit stations. As of July 2016, 1 percent of MARTA's annual budget is allocated to art restoration and art-related programs, as well as community activities.

Late last year, MARTA hired Katherine Dirga as arts administrator.

"From mosaics to murals, we are redefining the ridership experience here at MARTA by intentionally integrating art throughout the entire system," said Keith Parker, MARTA's general manager and chief executive officer. "This new commitment to the arts allows us to engage our customers in a bold, exciting and often entertaining new way."
