Metra last week released a new schedule for the Electric Line between downtown Chicago and southern suburbs that was made necessary by positive train control (PTC) implementation. 

The new schedule — which will take effect when the line is restored to full service following the COVID-19 pandemic — allows Metra crews more time to initialize the PTC system before each trip.

Metra incorporated revisions to the draft version based on input from 2,000 riders.

One of the biggest adjustments made was adding stops at Hyde Park Station in Chicago, Metra officials said in a press release.

“Our goal was to craft a schedule that accommodates the needs of positive train control while minimizing the impact of changes on our customers," said Metra Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Jim Derwinski.
