Metrolink last week introduced a rider loyalty and rewards program to encourage ridership and support Southern California businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dubbed SoCal Explorer, the program rewards riders with points and exclusive offers from local businesses and attractions throughout the region. Riders earn points for every mile they travel that can be redeemed for free tickets.

More than 30 local businesses are SoCal Explorer partners, offering discounts and other incentives to program members in exchange for being promoted as a part of the program, Metrolink officials said in a press release.

Once Metrolink riders are registered to SoCal Explorer, the tickets they purchase through the agency's mobile application will accrue points and be credited to their account automatically. Paper tickets users can take a photo of their tickets and upload it to their SoCal Explorer account to earn points.
