The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for rehabilitation projects at four subway stations in Manhattan.

One station is served by C line trains, while the remaining three are served by both B and C line trains.

The work is part of a larger program to renovate 33 subway stations across New York City, MTA officials said in a press release.

Station improvements include better signage for easier navigation, real-time train arrival information at subway entrances, glass barriers at fare arrays and Wi-Fi service.

The project also involves state-of-good-repair renewals of the stations' infrastructure.

The MTA will provide incentives to contractors to keep work-related closures as short as possible. Work at all four stations is slated for completion within 14 months of the contract award.

"Rather than doing a few component repairs, and stretching the work out over nights and weekends, we are taking a new top to bottom approach, renovating stations to bring customers a dramatically enhanced experience, and providing them with the tools they need for a better commute," said MTA Interim Executive Director Ronnie Hakim.

The MTA in late March began work on the 53rd Street Station in Brooklyn, which marked the first project in the 33-station rehab program.
