The Port Authority of Allegheny County's board has approved a seven-year agreement with Comcast to install Wi-Fi "hotspots" at seven light-rail stations in the Pittsburgh area.
The hotspots will enable riders to connect to Wi-Fi for free from their smartphones or other electronic devices. The project comes at no cost to the agency, authority officials said in a press release.
Comcast already provides service for transit users in Philadelphia, Boston and southern New Jersey.
"We're excited to be able to provide this amenity to our riders," said Port Authority Chief Executive Officer Ellen McLean. "This is yet another step in our ongoing effort to enhance the public transit experience, and will be invaluable once we roll out real-time tracking on our light rail vehicles."
