R. J. Corman Railroad Co. LLC announced it is marking its 30th anniversary this year.

Rick Corman founded the company in January 1987 with the acquisition of the Bardstown Line. In August of that same year, he purchased the 100-mile Memphis Line, which operates from Clarksville, Tenn., to Bowling Green, Ky.

Those acquisitions began what is now recognized as a national group of short-line operating companies, R. J. Corman officials said in a press release.

"Mr. Corman's entrepreneurial spirit and can-do attitude have paved our road to success and continue to push us as an organization to think innovatively in order to meet the needs of our customers," said Brian Miller, company president.

R. J. Corman currently operates 11 short lines in nine states totaling nearly 1,000 miles of track. The largest railroad in the company is the Pennsylvania Lines, which run on  243 miles of track in north central Pennsylvania.
