Rail supplier news from Bombardier, L.B. Foster, RATP, Mott MacDonald and Road and Rail (Aug. 29)

Bombardier Transportation obtained a $143.7 million contract from the London Underground to supply new motors and traction control equipment for the subway's fleet of Central line trains. The contract requires Bombardier to provide ongoing maintenance support until 2024. Bombardier's re-traction project is part of the London Underground's larger Central line improvement program, which calls for a number of enhancements to reduce failures on the route. For the program, Bombardier is replacing direct current traction motors on Central line trains with the latest MITRAC alternating current traction systems and traction control equipment, company officials said in a press release. In total, Bombardier will supply new motors and traction control for 85 eight-car Central line trains.

L.B. Foster Co. has appointed James Maloney senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. He'll join the company on Sept. 18. Based in L.B. Foster's office in Pittsburgh, Maloney will oversee global finances and accounting, as well as investor relations. He previously served as CFO at First Insight Inc., a company providing consumer data to global retailers and brands. Before that, Maloney was vice president-global financial planning and supply chain finance at H.J. Heinz Co., where he managed strategic and annual operating plans.

Catherine Guillouard was named president and chief executive of French state-owned public transportation company RATP Group. She previously served as deputy chief executive officer of Rexel, where she also served as chief financial officer. As CEO of RATP, Guillouard will help the company take on challenges such as international expansion, RATP officials said in a press release. RATP Dev America — which operates streetcar systems in Washington, D.C., and Tucson, Arizona — is part of RATP Group.

Mott MacDonald has named Andrew Gardner transportation planning practice leader for the firm's west and Canada units. He is an engineer with more than 25 years of experience in the development, planning, designing and financing of major light-rail projects in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, company officials said in a press release. Gardner also is experienced at developing modern transportation infrastructure using delivery models such as public-private partnerships, design-build and design-build-finance-operate-maintain.

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. has presented its 2017 Plant Processor of the Year award to Road & Rail Services for its performance at a site in Marysville, Ohio. The award recognizes the company's processing quality and service, as well as its "outstanding vehicle handing process," Road & Rail officials said in a press release. This marks the third time the company has received the award in the last four years, Road & Rail officials said in a press release.
