Rail supplier news from Duos, E-J Electric, Jacobs, Miner and WSP USA (Sept. 7)

Duos Technologies Group Inc. has reached a software license and application models agreement with an undisclosed Class I transportation and logistics company. The pact covers the development and licensing of 17 artificial intelligence-based detection algorithm models aimed at monitoring potential defects on rolling stock at rail inspection portals. The agreement will enable rail operators to deploy algorithms to "force-multiply and streamline" their inspection processes, said Duos Chief Operating Officer Noel Heiks in a press release.

E-J Electric Installation Co. has obtained a subcontract for systems, electrical and transmission line work from the design-build team for MTA Long Island Rail Road's (LIRR) third-track expansion project, which broke ground this week. The expansion calls for adding 9.8 miles of third track along the railroad's Main Line between Floral Park and Hicksville, New York. The project also includes expansion of eight existing LIRR bridges over local streets, improvements to six stations and the elimination of seven street-level grade crossings. E-J will provide upgraded signal, traction power and communication systems, company officials said in a press release.

The Australian Rail Track Corp. has hired a joint venture comprising Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. and GHD to perform a feasibility study and environmental impact assessment for a 186-mile section of the Inland Rail Program in New South Wales, Australia. The firms will conduct engineering design and environmental investigations to determine the preferred route for the Narromine to Narrabri (N2N) corridor in the province. The N2N Line is one of 13 projects in the Inland Rail Program.

Miner Enterprises Inc. has received TTX Co.'s supplier evaluation committee award for the 27th consecutive year. The award recognizes suppliers that meet TTX's standards for quality, cost effectiveness, on-time delivery, service excellence and administration, according to a Miner press release. Miner has earned the award each year since the program's inception.

WSP USA Senior Technical Manager Marie-Elsie Dowell has been elected president of the Miami chapter of the Florida Engineering Society. As president, she will oversee one of the group's largest chapters in Florida, with close to 300 members. As treasurer and president-elect, Dowell has served as a mentor in the Future City Competition, a national learning program that called for elementary school students to imagine, research, design and build cities of the future.
