Rail supplier news from NRC, Tramont, Alstom, ABB Turbocharging, TekTracking, CRRC and HNTB (June 14)

The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association (NRC) has hired TGA Association Management Solutions LLC (TGA AMS) for government affairs and association management services. TGA AMS President Matt Ginsberg previously worked with the association in roles including operations, conference planning, and regulatory and government affairs.

Tramont Manufacturing has acquired Compo Steel Products, increasing its production capacity and expanding its reach into the railroad market. Compo will continue operations as a division of Tramont Manufacturing under the name Motive Energy. Motive Energy is known for creating precision components for passenger and freight locomotives, according to a Tramont press release. As part of the acquisition, Tramont will begin transferring production to the Compo manufacturing plant, which is less than a mile from Tramont’s current facility in Milwaukee.

Alstom has received a $90 million order for 18 Coradia Lint regional trains from Landesanstalt Schienenfahrzeuge Baden-Wurttemberg. The trains will be built at Alstom’s site in Salzgitter, Germany, and delivered to the Zollernalbbahn network in southern Germany in the second half of 2020. In other Alstom news, the Moroccan Rabat Sale Tramway Co. has received the first two of the 22 Alstom Citadis trams it ordered in 2017. 

ABB Turbocharging has enhanced its two-stage turbocharger technology to make it available for use in high-speed rail. The Power2 technology was redesigned to be compact, enhance serviceability and improve durability to optimize the turbocharger for cyclical applications to fit railway overhaul schedules, according to an ABB press release.

TekTracking appointed Joe Denny chief technology officer. Denny will guide the company’s development team in launching TekTracking’s signal light monitor and cloud-based linear asset management platform. Denny has over 30 years of product development and business leadership experience focused on transportation and technology markets. Previously he was co-founder and chief executive officer of Railcomm and technical director of General Railway Signal’s (now Alstom) communications-based train control systems, according to a TekTracking press release.

CRRC Sifang America has begun accepting deliveries from more than 25 U.S. rail-car component manufacturers at its newly completed manufacturing facility in Chicago. The components will be used in the production of the Chicago Transit Authority’s new 7000 Series passenger cars, according to a CRRC press release. 

HNTB Corp. named Wayne Feuerborn president of the firm’s West division to oversee infrastructure programs, including those within the rail and transit industry in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii and Nevada. Feuerborn has been with HNTB for 18 years, most recently as office leader the central United States. He succeeds Art Hadnett, who now serves as regional growth officer, according to a HNTB press release.
