Stanley Herzog, president of William E. Herzog Enterprises, dies at 70

Stanley Herzog, president of William E. Herzog Enterprises Inc. and chairman of Herzog Contracting Corp., died Aug. 2 at his home in Missouri. He was 70.

Stanley and his brother Randy were instrumental in helping their father, William "Bill" Herzog, found Herzog Contracting Corp. in 1969. Stanley became the company's first official employee, starting out as a foreman on regional asphalt paving projects, according to a Herzog press release.

In the decade that followed, Stanley moved into the role of vice president of operations, as Herzog expanded nationally. When the company added transit operations and maintenance to its portfolio in 1993, Stanley was named chief executive officer of Herzog Transit Services Inc.

Later, he was named president of William E. Herzog Enterprises, which owns and manages all Herzog companies and subsidiaries. After his father died, Stanley assumed executive leadership as chairman and CEO of Herzog Contracting Corp.

Under Stanley’s leadership, Herzog grew to become one of the largest private contractors to provide construction, operations, and maintenance services for railroads and transit clients across North America, Herzog officials said. He was the company's longest serving employee and majority shareholder.

“On behalf of Herzog’s management team and its employees, we extend our deepest condolences to the Herzog family in this difficult time and express our sincerest gratitude for Stan’s decades of leadership,” said company officials.

Services were held yesterday in St. Joseph, Missouri.
