NS announces record Q3 results, plans to implement PSR

Norfolk Southern Corp. this morning announced record third-quarter financial results, including operating net income of $1 billion — a 14 percent increase compared with the same period a year ago.

While announcing Q3 results, NS officials also shared plans to implement aspects of precision scheduled railroading (PSR) as part of a new operating plan, the details of which will be unveiled at the Class I's investor day event to be held in Atlanta in February 2019.

Norfolk Southern could move HQ to Atlanta, report says

A video from Norfolk Southern Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer James Squires to NS employees last week strongly indicated NS could move its headquarters from Norfolk, Virginia, to Atlanta.

Squires' video message, which was not posted publicly on the NS website, was reported by The Virginian-Pilot, Norfolk's daily newspaper.

imageNorfolk Southern Railway is continuing efforts to correct damage caused by Hurricane Michael last week.The Class I is managing recovery efforts across its Pocahontas, Piedmont and Georgia divisions. All mainlines have been repaired and are open for operations."The municipal power companies are making good progress but there are areas across the region where power has not yet been restored," NS officials said in an operations update issued yesterday.In the Georgia division, all repairs have been completed, 53 locations are running on generator power and 122 locations had commercial power restored yesterday.In the Piedmont division, all repairs have been completed and 44 generators have been deployed. In the Pocahontas division, all mainline repairs have been completed, 71 locations remain without power and 52 generators have been deployed.Customers in affected areas should expect 24 to 48 hours delays, NS officials said.

Norfolk Southern Foundation will donate $100,000 toward Hurricane Florence recovery efforts in North Carolina.

The foundation will direct $50,000 to the American Red Cross and $50,000 to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina relief efforts.
