Founded by an act of Parliament in Canada on June 6, 1919, CN evolved from a federal crown corporation for 75 years to a private railroad company in 1995. The Class I spans North America, from eastern to western Canada and the Gulf of Mexico.

CN, Hutchison Ports to develop new container terminal

The Quebec Port Authority (QPA) yesterday announced the signing of a long-term commercial agreement with Hutchison Ports and CN to build and operate a new container terminal known as project Laurentia.

The CA$775 million project will be financed through the joint investment of all three partners. In addition, the QPA is in discussions with federal and provincial governments to complete the financing, according to a QPA press release.

image CN has received the Supply Chain Management Association's (SCMA) first Nation Builder award, the organizations announced last week.The award commemorates the association's 100th anniversary and recognizes the historical significance and future importance of building supply chains to Canada, according to a CN/SCMA press release.SCMA chose CN for its "unrivaled legacy of economic and innovative contributions to building Canada's supply chain infrastructure," said Christian Buhagiar, the association's president and chief executive officer.This year also marks CN's 100th anniversary, noted CN President and CEO JJ Ruest."While we are proud of the company's heritage, our focus is on the future of the supply chain and how we can play an active role in moving Canada's natural resources and our customers' goods to market safely and efficiently," he said. "We are focusing on investing in infrastructure, technology and solutions to increase our role in Canadian supply chain and across our international markets."The award will be presented Thursday during the 2019 National Conference and Fellow Awards Gala in Montreal.

CN recognizes customers for hazmat safety

image CN today announced 137 companies received its Safe Handling Award for 2018.Launched in 1992, the award recognizes CN customers that load freight cars with hazardous goods and meet strict standards for safely handling and shipping regulated products. Award winners must meet established criteria according to the total number of shipments of dangerous goods for all facilities."Safety is a core value at CN and we are working closely with our customers to deliver their goods safely and efficiently. With this award, CN wants to recognize its clients who make the safe handling of dangerous goods a top priority," said James Cairns, CN's senior vice president of rail centric supply chain, in a press release.The award is part of the Responsible Care® Program, an ongoing performance improvement initiative in which CN is a partner in Canada and the United States.

CN announces executive team changes

CN today announced Rob Reilly will become executive vice president and chief operating officer and Michael Foster will be promoted to EVP and chief information and technology officer as of July 1.

Reilly has 30 years of experience in the rail industry, starting in 1989 when he joined the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Co., now known as BNSF Railway Co. His industry experience includes a succession of increasingly senior positions in markets across the United States, most notably in Chicago and on the West Coast.
